A time recorder is a mechanical thing with a clock, a print head and a card feed. When it stops stamping properly it is almost always one of a handful of causes — and none of them mean you have to throw the machine out.
Very few companies pay everybody the same way. Weekly wages on the floor and monthly salaries in the office, different rates for different jobs, overtime rules that came out of a bargaining council agreement, staff loans running off the wage. All of that is normal, and all of it is catered for.

It is the rack that hangs on the wall next to the machine, with a numbered slot for every employee's card. Staff take their card out to clock, then put it straight back. It keeps cards off the floor, stops them getting lost or swapped, and keeps the whole month's cards together for payroll.
A tablet, laptop or phone with a camera runs the HR Hero clock page. Each employee is enrolled once, then simply looks at the camera. The system decides whether it is an IN or an OUT from that employee's last clocking rather than guessing from the time of day, so night shift, half days and split shifts are handled correctly. Photos are not sent anywhere — only a mathematical face signature is stored.
Clockings are stored on the device and sent through automatically when the connection comes back, so nobody loses a shift. There is also a watchdog that restarts the camera if the video stream dies, which matters when a tablet is left running on site for days at a time.
Yes. HR Hero can import an existing clock machine export (.xls or .csv). You map each device Personnel ID to an HR Hero employee once, and after that the check-in and check-out rows import straight into attendance and run through payroll normally.
